John Craven-Understood Backwards
This book records the life of John Craven who was born, bred and educated in the north east of England. Within the context of the times, he describes his early memories, school days and student life in the 1950's.
His thirty-three year career was in the dairy industry and with the Milk Marketing Board. Initially working as a farm management consultant in Cheshire, he eventually became the first chief executive of Genus plc. HE comments frankly on all of the political issues as the MMB moved towards its abolition in 1994.
Having purchased a small farm with his wife Barbara in 1965, he describes the ways in which the enterprise developed and the influence this had on his business and family life. The narrative includes John's experiences working within the European Association of Animal Production as well undertaking consultancy work in some developing countries.
In retirement, he recounts his time with the NHS and the Home Office staff selection processes as well as detailing many of his projects and interests
Understood Backwards is a delightful read, which sees John Craven
reflecting upon his eventful life and taking from it snippets of knowledge and
wisdom which might provide some signposts for his grandchildren as they enter
adulthood…
